Senate passes a bill that exempts Petrobras from pre-salt

Senators approved on February 23, the bill that exempts Petrobras from activities in the pre-salt. The text also will go to the Council and to presidential approval.

Shortly before the vote, the rapporteur Romero Juca (PMDB-RR) held the final adjustments to the design of the original law of Senator José Serra (PSDB-SP), which provided for the end of compulsory Petrobras have at least 30% of participation in consortia operating in pre-salt blocks and is the only operator in the region.

According to the text of Juca, the government will provide Petrobras preference to choose to keep or not the minimum of 30% interest in the blocks to be auctioned and therefore, operator of the role of these areas. The state will have 30 days to make that decision.

The approval creates a good outlook for the Brazilian economy, because it improves the expectations of the economy with the opening of the market.
